Climate Action Niagara (CAN)
Is a member-driven, registered not-for-profit organization that provides education and opportunities for actions on issues relating to climate change. Since 2006, CAN hosts the annual Eco Fest Niagara trade show to support a greener economy, provides a clearing house of regional events and articles through our newsletter, and provides speaker and film series including Food Security, Urban Forestry, Waste and Consumption, Land Use Planning, Local Food Preservation, Community Gardens and Soils Integrity. CAN established the Niagara Community Gardens Network and with the generosity of the Trillium Foundation of Ontario, United Way of South Niagara and the Niagara Prosperity Initiative we are facilitating 15 community gardens and establishing the community groups to support sustainability. Through the School Scapes program, we work with youth on Soil Health and Plant Propagation to reintroduce native trees to schoolyards with ACER’s Planting for Change and Measuring for Change programs.
